| Len Payne was born in
Kent, England. He originally worked in advertising as a typographer,
but since 1967 has freelanced as an art director, graphic designer,
photographer and illustrator. Whilst enjoying a successful career
in the field of commercial art, he was also steadily producing personal
work.
He says of his paintings, "The inspiration for my work can
often be traced back to quite simple and uncomplicated origins:
glimpsed colours suggesting the atmosphere of a place, real or imagined...
I am seeking to develop a visual language using only the traditional
elements of colour, line and tone, form, shape and composition.
I feel there are yet infinite possibilities within these so called
limits."
